Sadiku was shocked and bewildered by sidi's response to her message because she thought that sidi would take the offer from the lion(baroka) who was wealthy and powerful. Sidi will be the last wife of baroka and the first fot baroka son she will gain the chance to live in the palace with baroka and his eldest wife she will gain riches and be more wealthy but unfortunately sidi rejected that offer. Sidi got so self absorbed because her images had been placed in the magazine. She is now famous and well known as the most beatiful girl in the village and lagos. She thinks that, she now has the right to reject and accept any man she wants because she is well known and self-absorbed.

Sadiku was sent as a recruiter to recruit Sidi for Baroka to be his last and favorite wife. Surprisingly Sidi refused Baroka's offer. Sadiku was shocked and bewildered by Sidi's response to Baroka's offer because she didn't think that a girl in her right mind would refuse such fame, wealth, privilege and honor to become Baroka (the bale) -the richest man and the chief in the village last - and favorite wife. She did not only refuse his offer of becoming his last and favorite wife but also the offer of supping with him because she claimed that any woman who supped with Baroka ended being his wife or concubine. A flabbergasted Sadiku even turned to ask Sidi if she was well or in her right mind. Sadiku didn't think that a girl of such beauty and pride would be so shallow-headed. The magazine contributed to the refusal from Sidi to Baroka's offer. When Sidi saw the pictures of her in the magazine and how beautiful her skin and physique was she did not want to marry just anybody she wanted to marry someone special and worthy to be called her husband. When Sidi saw the photograph of Baroka, the only photograph there was of him, she started to compare herself with him saying that she has more photographs in the magazine than the bale so she is more important than the bale, the most important man in the village of Illujinle. Therefore she said that he is less than her so she will not marry him. She also said after seeing the picture of Baroka in the magazine that he is old enough to be her grandfather. She also stated that he is futile and weak and not worthy of her hand in marriage. After seeing the pictures of herself she did not even wanted to marry Lakunle as she considered him to be just a mere school teacher.

Sadiku was shocked and bewildered when Sidi refused the bale's offer because she didn't think any woman in their right mind would refuse it because the bale was a very wealthy man, he was the richest man in the village, he was also the chief. Sadiku never imagined that Sidi would refuse it because she was so precious and she told Sidi she would be the bale's favorite wife and she would live with him in the palace.
The magazine contributed to this because it gave her fame and she thought that she was more popular than the bale. She also thought the bale was too old for her and she was too young to be with a man who was old enough to be her grandfather.

  4. Sadiku;an old woman that works for the Baroka(bale). Sadiku was shocked and bewildered by sidi's response to her message because sidi turned/refused the Bale's hand in marriage, such privilege of becoming the wife of the richest man in the village, the chief. She was shocked that sidi in her right mind would refused an opportunity like that, am opportunity to become rich, to gain security and comfort. Sidi refused because she thinks the bale is unattractive "ugly" and old for her, old enough could be her grandfather.she thinks he is so unattractive and old for a beautiful and desirable girl like her to be with someone like him.

Sidi's response was known that she is in the magazine and her pictures are prettier she righteous, she felt on top of everybody in the city Includig the bale ..so she that she this she don't need him nor his money

Sadiku was bewildered by the response of sidi who refused to be the bale's favourite wife. Sadiku didi not think that sidi would refuse this offer because as they would know the bale is a wealthy man.So she thought that sidi would fall for the bale that instant.
The magazin played the role of letting sidi know that she was worth more than an old bale to be he husband and to let her know the importance or value that she is worth of.

  7. Sadiku was surprised that someone could turn down the offer to be the wife of the bale which was a great opportunity for a woman in that time and period. No woman would dare to turn down such a beneficial offer especially to be the last wife of his. A girl would be stupid to turn down such an offer. But Sidi knew better, she knew that he would not stop at her being the last wife, she knew Baroka was greedy when it came on to women. Also the magazine issue showed Sidi that she was now greater than the bale, the fact that she was on three page of the magazine and he was on one in a little corner with "the lowest of the low", the village latrine, enlightened Sidi that she was now higher than the great bale. Sidi knew he only wanted fame from her because she was now so popular among the villagers and lagos people, She knew within herself that she was too beautiful to be the wife of such an unattractive man.
